My name is Charlie Henson and this is my AS Media Blog, this subject is one that I really enjoy as I can express my ideas creatively and present them in a variety of ways to make them look appealing to the audience. I am really interested in media as a subject and hope I can benefit from the theory and practical elements that I learn over the 2 years I study this subject.

TREATMENT OF FILM PRODUCTION - CHARLIE
My Comments:
This is the film production treatment for the opening scene of the film, it focuses mainly on the genre, the characters involved, locations that we are using and a general breakdown of the content of the scene.
This general breakdown is detailed and in depth to show that I know what type of scene i want to create and how much I want to relate it to the Thriller genre.

LOCATION/CHARACTER RESEARCH - CHARLIE

My Comments:
This piece of work explains in more detail the different locations that we intend to use, it explains how we are going to use Crystal Palace Train Station and South Norwood Lakes Recreation Ground.
I also explained the two different types of clothing style that are considered being used, the style that we pick will have a huge influence on how the characters are perceived.
If we pick the tracksuit gangster style clothing it will make the characters look like thugs who hang around the streets and don't go to school or work - this is because of the stereotypical representations people make of these types of people today.
If we pick the suit style it will make the characters look as if they do have a job or go to school but will be perceived in a better way because of how they are dressed even though they are causing trouble.

LOCATION, EQUIPMENT, PERSONNEL ORGANISATION - CHARLIE
My Comments:
This presentation outlines the different locations I intend on using, the equipment that I will need in order to carry out the filming process, and the roles of the characters within the opening scene. This is a good breakdown of information as it helps me to make a plan of where I am going to film and what I will need to film. If I need reminding about any particular equipment that I may nee, I can easily refer back to this presentation.

PRODUCTION MEETING NOTES: OCTOBER 6TH 2013
The following information was noted down in the exercise book but has only been uploaded to blogger on 05/02/14:
October
6th, 2013:
What I have completed so
far:
-
I have completed the preliminary task which has allowed me to gain some
experience on how to use the camera and the different shot types that are
available to use.
-
I have successfully been able to set up my blog and design it in a way that
would suit the type of film I am going to create. In the meeting, I discussed
with other members some initial ideas that I was then able to incorporate into
the response to brief task. Some of these ideas that we were discussing were
what age we wanted to target audience to be, what genre we wanted to create the
film in and how many characters we wanted to be involved.
-
I have also made a start on some research and planning tasks, I have started
the target audience research in which I am conducting a survey to see which
genre is most popular with the chosen target audience.
What I still need to
complete:
-
I still need to complete a lot of research and planning tasks such as the
treatment, the storyboard and shooting script etc…
How is the blog currently
looking?
-
The blog has been set up so that fonts and font colours do not clash and so
there is a relevant background picture relating to the theme of the film.
How is the filming/editing
currently doing?
-
The plan is to get all the planning done before starting the filming, I aim to film at the end of November or the beginning of December.

PRE-PRODUCTION TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH QUESTIONNAIRE ANALYSIS - CHARLIE
My Comments:
From the results of the audience questionnaire I decided to explain the results to show why I am going to go into the Thriller genre to create the opening scene.
PERMISSION TO FILM - CHARLIE
Filming at Crystal Palace Train Station:
We carried out some filming at Crystal Palace Train Station and in order to have access to the station platforms we needed to gain permission from the station master. Upon arrival at the station, we spoke to the security at the platform barriers and asked if we could speak to the person in charge of the station. He directed us to the office where we showed our student ID cards and explained the reasons why we wanted to film on the platform.
We were granted permission by the manager to film on site so we proceeded to the platform where we spent roughly 45 minutes filming and then returned our visitors passes to the manager on the way out.
Filming at South Norwood Recreation Park:
For filming at South Norwood Recreation ground we did not need to gain any permission as it is a public park and we were able to film where we wanted.
Assessing Risks:
At both locations there were potential risks, for example at the Train Station we had to be careful we didn't go too close to the platform edge, we had to make sure our filming equipment did not get in the way of commuters travelling around the station, this is a reason we chose to go at a less busy time so that we wouldn't be all in the way. We also had to make sure we looked after the equipment so that it didn't get damaged or stolen.
The risks that were involved when filming at the park were that there was a big lake and although it is seperated from the pathway by a pavement, it is important that we stay behind the barrier and not go closer than we are allowed. There was a childs playground on entrance to the park where we filmed just outside of it, we had to make sure we did not get in the way of children who are playing and we had to notify any parents in the play area of what we were doing just so that they knew what we were recording.
During the filming of our production we did not come across any problems as we had assessed the risks involved and identified ways around them.

SHOT TYPES - CHARLIE

My Comments:
This is a selection of 14 different photos showing the different shot types that we can and plan to use in our film production, we wanted to do this so we can practice shooting these shots for when we begin filming for our opening scene. Using a variety of shots in a film can unconciously engage the audience even more, although it might not be an action packed shot on screen, emotions such as suspense can be created by showing the audience the shot from a range of different camera angles making them want to watch more.
We had to do a lot of research into these shots so that we knew how to capture them properly and perfect our techniques before beginning to film our opening scene.
